The Voice Inc. (TVI) Community celebrated nine years of TVI’s growth and progress on Saturday 16th of July at the Port Moresby Nature Park. We had a lot to celebrate and a lot to be challenged by especially as we look at the issues that confront us as a nation. But we will not tarry because we believe where there is vision coupled with able and willing men and women there is always hope!
When we reflect on our nine years of growth as an organization we think of the words that have framed each of those years and the fruit that it carried. In 2011 we declared that it was our “Year of Small Beginnings”, it was the year of sowing seeds and watching God water the work of our hands. We were inspired by the scripture in Zechariah 4:10-11 that states, “Do not despise the day of small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” With this word in mind we set our hearts and minds to building our very small organization with only three staff members, two old computers, no internet and a small brick office at the University of PNG. Nine years on we see the fruits of that word; what we began in faith has seen God bring the increase.
In 2014 we declared that it was our time to “Pioneer Into New Territories” and so we did! We published our first ever Clean Generation Magazine and hosted a Stand event that brought in American gospel artist Beckah Shae and had over 1500 young people attend. We were even featured in Beckah Shae’s video Pioneer!! We also launched our Clean Gen Radio Program on FM100 which allowed our message to reach thousands of listeners with positive music and inspirational stories. This was also the year that PNG University of Technology was added as another Campus partner to our growing student movement.
This year we declared that ‘It was our Time”. We were inspired from the scriptures in Habakuk 2:2-3 which states “..record the vision and inscribe it on tablets so that the one who reads it may run. For the vision awaits its appointed time; It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it, for it will certainly come, it will not delay” (NLV).
Empowered with this word we hosted our first Nation Builders Conference at the beginning of the year and equipped our students to begin leading the Clean Generation movement on their respective campuses. We designed Clean Gen Toolkits which comprise of a DREAM Audio CD and a Do-it-Yourself workbook to allow for anyone to do the DREAM in their own free time. To date our toolkits are being distributed around the country to young people and are already having an impact on young lives as they begin discovering the person God has truly created them to be. We also pioneered our programs at the University of Goroka.
We believe there is power in bold declarations and whilst we did not anticipate the student and civil unrest that would follow this year we also heard young people begin saying that it was their time to stand up and their time to lead. We don’t know the fullness of what this word represents for our people but we believe in our hearts that there is a shift taking place as young people become aware that they cannot sit idle and disengaged from the affairs of their nation. It is indeed time for us all to rise up as change agents to hear the cries of our people that miss out on access to basic services.
As an organization, we can already see the changes that have come about as we’ve gathered together as a Community of people who believe in the vision of TVI. Not only were there young people present at our event but there was also a growing community of adults and children as many of our Alumni brought their young families. It was great seeing these families as it is one of our firm beliefs that strong families who create homes filled with love represent the hope of this nation. We also believe it is essential that each generation passes on wisdom, experience and lessons to the next and this also how we preserve the culture of TVI and see the changes we envision and want our Community to represent.
We have made a commitment to gather every month and continue to build this amazing community! We are excited to be a part of the change process and know that there is so much more in store for us as an organization who labour to see a generation raise in their purpose and confident in their contribution to their community, nation and the world!
