Tips on Building Strength and Resilience in your life

Building Strength

Our theme for 2018 is “Strength to Strength” and it is our firm belief that whatever the circumstances were that you entered this year with, if you remain faithful to the dreams God has placed in your heart you will end the year stronger than what you entered it in. Strong people are resilient people. Resilience is the capacity to recover quickly from difficult circumstances. Unfortunately, we can’t control what happens to us but we have the power to choose how we respond. Our capacity to respond positively is determined by our physical and mental strength.

Here are five tips on how to build strength and resilience in your lives:

1. Embrace the pressure. Trust the process

You have heard it said time and time again, that pressures and struggles help to make us stronger. The only problem is no one likes going through bad stuff in life. What we can guarantee is that you can turn these struggles into strength if you display a positive attitude and hold onto the belief that God will see you through this season and you will become a better person because of what you are going through (Romans 5:3). Anything that is worth anything doesn’t come easy. Don’t let the pressures of this season stop you from achieving your goals, let it propel you forward!

2. Take care of yourself

There is a reason why every time you board a plane the flight attendant gives the warning that in the case of any emergency you should first ensure your face mask is on before you put the facemask on of your child. Though our instinct is to always help those we love, we need to remember that if we burn out we will be of no use to those we care about. True love comes from loving yourself and from that overflow comes that beautiful spark of life that enables you to give abundantly to others around you. One of the best things you can do for yourself is prioritise your heath. Building up your body through physical exercise will expand your capacity to do more. Start doing things to take care of yourself today.

3. Focus on feeding your Soul and Tummy with good stuff

In this world of quick fixes we sometimes can lose sight of things that really matter. Whatever you put into your body determines the quality of the output that we will produce. When we fill our minds with clutter and feed our tummy food that is devoid of any nutritional content we only seek to disadvantage ourselves. Remember your body is the temple of God, make sure you are feeding it well!

4. Drink water!

Water is a magic liquid but unfortunately many people turn to sweet drinks to get their energy fix. Our body is made of 60% water so hydrating your body is soo important! The one good thing you can do for yourself when you wake up is drink a long glass of water and make sure you get your 2L intake every day. In doing so your body will be revitalized and will take your through your day.

5. Surround yourself with people that love you

Good company can never be sacrificed when you are in the place of building strength. Gods promise in Isaiah 40:31 is that ‘those that wait upon the world shall renew their strength.” There is life giving power in gathering together in numbers with those that put their hope in Jesus Christ. He will see you through even the hardest of seasons. WE were made for community so don’t live life isolated, pick up the phone and invest in relationships that will be there for you no matter what you are going through in life!
